Pride is more than just a celebration – it’s a reminder of the importance of love, respect and equality for all. At Aspect, we strive to hold these values central to everything we do, which is why it is so important for us as a company, to support Pride and the annual march held in July.
The history of the Pride march began with the Stonewall Riots in New York City in June 1969, a response to police raids at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. These protests sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement and since 1970, Pride marches have grown into global events celebrating LGBTQ+ identity, demanding equal rights, and honouring the ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice.
Members of the Aspect team were honoured to join the march this year, on July 5, walking alongside our friends at Link – the LGBTQ+ Insurance Network – to celebrate diversity, visibility, community and progress within the insurance industry.
To mark the Pride celebrations, we were pleased to donate to two relevant charities.
The first is Stonewall Housing. Stonewall Housing, established in 1983, is a major UK charity dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ individuals experiencing homelessness or unsafe housing. Offering services such as a free advice helpline, supported accommodation and specialist guidance on domestic abuse and mental health; it addresses the unique housing challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities. It has supported more than 42,000 since launch.
For the team at Aspect, this donation reflects our commitment to inclusion, dignity, and the importance of making a real-world impact beyond the workplace. You can find more information on the charity here.
Our second donation in relation to Pride Month, was made to Queer Gym, a small Rotterdam-based fitness foundation which offers personal training, group sessions, and “open gym” access, in a judgement-free environment focused on joy, confidence, and community.
Our contribution will support their Community Care Pot, which is used, among other things, to fund memberships for individuals who cannot afford a subscription but who need a safe, affirming space to train. Find out more about Queer Gym here.
For Aspect, support of Pride, attending the march and donating, is not just a personal issue but a shared business value, reflecting our long-term commitment to social impact and the rights and dignity of all.
We are proud to be an inclusive workplace, which treats team, suppliers and clients with the fairness and respect that everyone deserves. We are committed to getting involved in charitable projects and encouraging the team to volunteer is at the core of our identity. We firmly believe that businesses have a significant role to play in shaping a better world, by making a positive impact on our community and society at large.
So let’s continue to foster workplaces and communities, where acceptance, kindness and co-operation thrive.
